Fifteen Day Challenge: Day 14

Linking up with Life of Love for the second to last day of our awesome challenge! In celebration of these last two posts - and happy circumstance - I'm going to give half of the post to my guy, Oscar.

Elise: Although Alice in Wonderland is my favourite movie, I really don't think that I'd want to watch it for my whole life. It's timeless to me, and I love the quirkiness of it - and I seriously cannot get enough of Cheshire Cat's charm - but I just ... no. I think I'm going to have to go with either Mozart and the Whale or Courageous.

Why Mozart? It's such a different kind of love story; maybe I'd go as far to say it's a bit indie. It's the story of Isabelle and Donald, two young adults who have lived very different but very lonely lives. They are both diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, a form of Autism, and they slowly learn how to effectively push each other's buttons and fall in love with their impurities. It's such a beautiful love story. I really don't like romantic movies all that much, but this one gets me every time. Some of the lines are absolutely beautiful. I think it'd just be a nice film to watch because it's so perfect in its brokenness.



Why Courageous? This movie is targeted at men, and more specifically fathers, but it's still a call to all Christians and all of humanity. It is a Christian movie and God is a frequent reference, but Oscar enjoyed it a lot and he's an Atheist. It centers around five men, four of which are a part of the Albany Police Department, and their experiences as policemen. Tragedy hits one of the families, and the movie evolves into a beautiful piece about life after loss, reliance on God, and the courage it takes to lead your family into God's Kingdom. It's beautiful - and there is a lot of action, for those who need something to constantly focus on. It'd be a great reminder of my duty as a Christian and full of life lessons on appreciating the world around us.


Oscar:  First of all I'd like to thank the very beautiful and amazingly kindhearted Ms. Elise for giving me the chance to write on her blog =). I honestly don't know what I would do without this girl in my life, she's made my world so much better and I love her with everything I have. With that said, I hope you guys enjoy my ramblings on something that is very near and dear to my heart: movies. After seeing endless amounts of movies that I've thoroughly enjoyed over the years, this was a bit more difficult than I thought it'd be.  My favorite movie is 2001: A Space Odyssey; it is such a timeless and revolutionary film. The first time I watched it, I was simply blown away by the overall feel of it; there isn't a lot of dialogue and it is quite lengthy, but it's hard not to get lost in the vastness of space as well as the incredible music in the movie.  I just don't think I can do this movie justice by writing about it - it's an everlasting sci-fi masterpiece.  However, if I had to pick one movie to watch for the rest of my life it'd have to be Iron Man.


Since I love talking about movies so much and because Elise also picked another movie, I'll give you guys the second movie that I'd watch for the rest of my life: The Dark Knight. From Christopher Nolan's incredible directing to Heath Ledger's phenomenal interpretation of the Joker character, I just can't say enough good things about this movie.  The Dark Knight set the bar extremely high for superhero movies - it plays more like a crime/action drama than a comic book based film. For me, the heart of this movie lies in Heath Ledger's Joker; he has created a character that will be immortalized like no other. Whenever the Joker is on screen, it just gives you an uneasy feeling because you never know just what he's going to do. There's not many actors who can bring such depth and complexity to what could've been a simple comic book villain. Ledger gave the performance of his life and deserved the best supporting actor Academy Award. It's a shame that a person with so much talent had to die. I've memorized so many lines in this movie that it's ridiculous; if you haven't watched this movie, get out there, rent it and enjoy one of (if not the) best superhero movie ever made.
